Mentoring Pearls
In today’s media influenced world, it is not easy for girls and young women of color, to develop a healthy sense of self-worth, self-respect and purpose. To do this they must learn to navigate peer pressure and negative messages. By leveraging the power of mentoring relationships, every girl is one meaningful connection away, from becoming the leader they are meant to be. To build their future on a solid platform, we link our girls and young women with a mentor to help them develop into strong and confident women.
Each group, at age appropriate levels are taught critical and necessary life skills that promote academics, develop character, define and set career objectives, team building and healthy relationships to shape their confidence. We offer a hybrid of mentoring relationship (1:1 and group).
One to One mentoring promotes a structured relationship where the mentor focuses solely on the mentee. The primary goal is to help the mentee acquire life skills and increase their self-esteem.
Group mentoring allows us to impact the lives of young ladies, while providing them an opportunity to develop their own peer support system. Our hands-on group activities are both engaging and informative.

Mommies with Villages Prosper (M.V.P.)
The number one reason girls dropout of high school is unintended pregnancy. They usually face problems that make it difficult for them to support themselves and their children. Teen moms are very likely to drop out of school, and without an education or work experience, it is hard for them to find jobs. They face a cycle of poverty and teen pregnancy often becomes a generational cycle.
Young women of color from low-income backgrounds are disproportionately affected by teen pregnancy. The M.V.P. program supports young mothers in graduating from high school, pursuing secondary education or finding/securing a full- ensuring educational access, time job and break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their children. M.V.P. does this through
mentoring,
providing parenting workshops, teaching health and wellness; and
developing financial literacy.
Community-based Activities/Workshops
Money Smarts (Financial Literacy) – We teach participants (ages 10-18) the basics of handling their money and finances, including how to create positive relationships with financial institutions.
“Period” Party (Reproductive Health) – A semiannual celebrating a girls entrance into the world as an official adolescent. We brings together girls and women to teach about reproductive health and the symbolism of the menstrual cycle.
Charm, Character and Etiquette –
Building Resilient Adolescent Girls (B.R.A.G.) – The responsibilities of being a teen mom and trying to balance school, a social life and possibly a job, can be exhausting. B.R.A.G. is a teen pregnancy and prevention program focused on helping teens delay sexual activity, reduce risky behaviors and avoid an unplanned or repeat pregnancy. Whether a young woman has entered motherhood or merely engaged in sexual activity, each still has the ability to achieve her dreams. B.R.A.G. helps girls realize the pitfalls the have encountered and their triumphant resurrection are both key to not only their empowerment, but also others. Through B.R.A.G., girls learn that resilience and their success are worth "bragging" about to others.
